Wilckodontics – Periodontally Accelerated Osteogenic Orthodontics

If you are looking for a way to significantly shorten your orthodontic treatment we can help. Many patients can have their treatment times reduced to 6 to 8 months.

AOO™, also known as Wilckodontics®, is a new procedure which allows teeth to be moved approximately 4 times faster than with conventional orthodontics. In most cases, treatment time can be reduced to 3 to 8 months! This new patented method is the result of years of research from the fields of orthodontics and periodontics. With the AOO™ procedure, patients now have a viable alternative to drastically speed up their orthodontic treatment. This group of patients has tended to include adolescents who do not want to wear braces for 1 1/2 to 3 years while in high school, and adults whose social or professional responsibilities would preclude their wearing braces for a long period of time.

AOO™ is considered a cosmetic periodontal procedure. AOO™ involves surgical stimulation of the bone’s external surface, with selective placement of bone and/or soft tissue grafts. The bone then goes through a phase known as osteopenia, where its mineral content is temporarily decreased. While the alveolar bone is in this transient state, braces can move your teeth very quickly, because the bone is “softer” and there is less resistance to the force of the braces.

The AOO™ procedure is feasible for most patients, regardless of age, as long as their permanent teeth are present. The contraindications for this procedure are similar to those of traditional periodontal surgery, such as uncontrolled diabetes or prolonged bisphosphonate use. In addition, some orthodontic cases are not amenable to this mode of therapy.

The AOO™ procedure is recommended only after careful consideration and discussion between the periodontist and your orthodontist or general dentist.
